In Bogotá, 92% of the business fabric is made up of microenterprises

The characteristics of the productive units of the capital arise from the second version of the great survey of the business community of the Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá, together with the Centro Nacional de Consultoría.


This survey was applied to 2,272 businessmen and seeks to provide tools for the construction of public policies and strategies to strengthen the capital's private sector. Of the total, 1,386 had a commercial registry and the other 886 did not. By size, 92% of them are micro-enterprises, 5% small companies and the other 2% medium-sized companies. Only 1% is identified as a large productive unit. The majority are from the service sector: 52%. Meanwhile, 33% is dedicated to commerce and another 13% to industry. 56% of the organizations correspond to natural persons and the rest to legal persons. There it is evident that, of those with commercial registration, 43% were created in the last 5 years and 19% in the last 2 years, which shows a young business mass. According to half of the organizations created (51%), the start of operations arose from a business opportunity. In turn, 32% do it to exercise their trade or professional career and 12% have no other income alternative. In the case of productive units without commercial registration, these percentages were 45%, 28% and 42% respectively. According to the report, for companies with commercial registration, the three main sources of financing used to start this company or business were own resources or savings (82%), family loans (37%), bank loans (29%). In the case of productive units without commercial registration it was 46%, 26% and 19%, respectively. "This shows that there are still significant challenges for the use of bank resources to start the business" , he concludes.


Employment and inclusion

It is found that 59% of the companies with a commercial registry have up to three employees, and in the productive units that do not have a commercial registry, 82% have up to three collaborators, including the owner. Likewise, it is detected that 10% of the companies mentioned having employed a person with a disability in the last 12 months, while in productive units without commercial registration that percentage reaches 6%. Regarding the employability of young people, for companies with commercial registration, 29% of people who worked there in the last 12 months are young people between 18 and 28 years old, including the owner or owners. In the case of productive units without commercial registration, this percentage is 27%. In addition, when companies have a single owner, 43% of them are women, while 57% are men. When they are owned by several owners, the participation of women in the shareholding composition is 40%.
