The hearings of Caracol and RCN TV are closer than previously thought, according to the CNC

A Claro study with the Centro Nacional de Consultoria (CNC) showed that the audiences of Caracol Televisión and RCN Televisión were closer than other analyzes such as Kantar Ibope had allowed.


Claro and CNC's prime time measurement shows that Caracol's audience between June 1 and 20 was 45.94%, while RCN's was 45.88%, according to data revealed by Semana. This represents a notable difference compared to the measurement of Kantar Ibope, which records that for this period the audience of the former was 59.3% and that of RCN, 32%.


Not only these data highlight the difference between the analyses. Another of the data in which they differ is the evolution since January. The Claro - CNC study shows a greater fall in the audience of Alejandro Santo Domingo's channel (Grupo Valorem) and a greater rise in the case of the one belonging to the Ardila Lülle Organization.


Since the first month, Caracol has fallen by 14 percentage points (pp) and RCN has risen by 13 points. In contrast, the Kantar study shows a reduction of 10 pp compared to a growth of 8 points by RCN.


The measurement systems used by both consultants are different. For example, Ibope uses a sample of 1,200 boxes, while Claro - CNC uses 130,000 decoders in 77,000 homes.


The Republic contacted Kantar who explained that the differences between the measurements arise from the fact that the total number of channels that are available is taken into account, not only the three national private ones. The firm assured that "the published data corresponds to the share of Caracol, RCN and Canal Uno, and here it would only be showing the industry as if Caracol and RCN had 90% of the TV share and that is not the case, let us remember that television It has a lot more actors and you have to take the whole picture into account."


Likewise, they pointed out that their "sample is 1,100 homes and more than 2,400 people meters. These people meters are state-of-the-art technology present in more than 40 countries in the world, and they are not limited to measuring an operated cable."
