The figure of Alejandro Char opened an important gap in the intention to vote in Barranquilla in the face of the next local elections. This is reflected in the latest survey conducted by the Centro Nacional de Consultoría in its Alliance with EL TIEMPO and CM&.

According to the polling firm, just two months before the elections, 68 percent of Barranquillas would favor Char as mayor.

In second place and far from the head is Antonio Eduardo Bohórquez, candidate for the Democratic Pole, one of the parties of the Historical Pact, with seven percent of the intention to vote.

He is followed by Marco Fabio Orozco Cárdenas (three percent), Luis Enrique Guzmán Chams, Hassan Fares Hachem and Harry Alberto Silva, all with two percent support.

In the last place is Rigail Dibaldo Romero, since only one percent of the citizens surveyed would vote for this candidate.

For his part, 11 percent of those interviewed responded that they did not know his voting decision, two percent would vote blank, and another equal percentage would not vote for any candidate.

For this survey, a total of 440 interviews were conducted with men and women over the age of 18 residing in Barranquilla. They all responded to the question: Thinking of the upcoming elections for the Mayor of Barranquilla on October 29, which of the following candidates would you vote for?

The study also indicated the electoral preferences by gender and showed that 75 percent of the women surveyed would vote for Alejandro Char, while in the masculine category, 60 percent of the men responded that their vote would be for this candidate.

On the other hand, three percent of the women and 11 percent of the men surveyed would give their vote for Antonio Eduardo Bohórquez.

The rest of the candidates distribute their intentions as follows: two percent of women and five percent of men stated that they would choose Marco Fabio Orozco Cárdenas, another two percent of women would put Luis Enrique Guzmán Chams in that position, as well as three percent of men.

While Hassan Fares Hachem, Harry Alberto Silva and Rigail Dibaldo Romero each had one percentage point of support from women in the poll. On the men's side, three percent of those interviewed would give their confidence to Fares; two percent, to Silva, and one percent, to Romero.

Another difference that marked the survey was the socioeconomic strata. On this aspect, the report shows a very similar intention to vote for Alejandro Char in the high (72 percent), medium (61 percent) and low (69 percent) strata.

According to analysts, Barranquilla shows an intention to continue. According to Carlos Arias, a public and political communication analyst, this is due to the management and transformation of the city in the last eight years.

“In the Caribbean, all spheres of well-being and quality of life are associated with politics. In Barranquilla, the Char group achieved economic development and very firm structures, so regardless of what the opinion at the national level is, it enjoys this favoritism”, he indicates.

For his part, the strategist and political analyst Álvaro Benedetti points out that the former presidential candidate was not affected "at all" by his defeat in the Equipo por Colombia coalition consultation, as well as the Aida Merlano scandal.

"He has not been a politician who has paid for his bad experience at the national level, because that local political monopoly that he and his family have remains firm," he points out.

"The important thing is that the citizen perceives a personal well-being and that is why he generates an efficient rational choice," adds Arias.

This is the third time that the former president has launched his campaign for the district administration, after the periods between 2008-2011 and 2016-2019, when he governed the capital of the Atlantic. He was also governor of Atlántico in 2003, after the dismissal of Ventura Díaz.

In this sense, Char presented as his first plan in case he wins the next mayoralty the creation of the District Security Secretariat, allocating resources to strengthen the Public Force and all associated institutions to combat crime.

"Why do I come back? I come back because people ask me, they have been asking me for many months, perhaps years, and I love this city very much and I have a duty to it, because it has given us everything. Just as from the private sector we promote Barranquilla every day, it is exciting and challenging to do it again from the mayor's office, ”said Char after confirming his candidacy on July 28.
