EDU CO - Bogotá Aprende Digital, will transform public education in the city, with a commitment that goes beyond the delivery of electronic devices.

It happens here! In Bogotá, my city, my home, we work to innovate in education. The Colegio de la Bici (Bike School), in the Bosa district, was the launch site for the EDU CO - Bogotá Aprende Digital (Bogotá Learns Digital) strategy, which aims to help close the digital divide and strengthen the capacity of public schools so that technology becomes an effective tool for creation, research, analysis, and learning.
During the event led by Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán and the Secretary of Education, Julia Rubiano, the mayor confirmed: “Today we are launching the EDU CO strategy, which is technology with a purpose for Bogotá schools. We will bring 18,000 technological tools to district schools and upgrade existing computers to reduce their obsolescence by 60%.”
EDU CO - Bogotá Aprende Digital (Bogotá Learns Digitally) will transform public education in the city with a strategy that goes beyond simply providing electronic devices. It integrates technological infrastructure, training and pedagogical integration, sustainability, and data to improve student learning. For this digital transformation of public education, the Department of Education invested over 40 billion pesos in smart device provision, pedagogical integration, and results measurement.
“EDU CO is a package, because we deliver the resources, but with support for the schools, with training for the teachers, and with monitoring and evaluation to see if it is working and to make the adjustments that are required,” explained the Secretary of Education, Julia Rubiano.
The strategy unfolds through four complementary initiatives: the first is ReNube, a technological sustainability solution that will allow the recovery of 3,000 obsolete computers in 75 public schools. Using cloud infrastructure and virtual desktops, this initiative represents an investment of approximately $3.9 billion and will prevent equipment that no longer meets current demands from being discarded as technological waste. Instead, these computers will be able to operate as access points to updated tools for programming, design, and learning, without the physical equipment's capabilities limiting students' opportunities.
The second initiative is the Digital Maturity Index (DMI), a tool that will identify the strengths, gaps, and needs of schools in three dimensions: infrastructure and connectivity; leadership and organizational culture; and the pedagogical use of technology. With an investment of over $473 million, it will allow for more precise targeting of city decisions and investments to strengthen the digital transformation of educational institutions.
Based on this measurement, Bogotá will be able to more precisely target future investments, prioritize schools that require more support, and evaluate which strategies are generating the best results. The Index is developed with the support of the Data Analytics Agency ÁGATA and the Centro Nacional de Consultoría.
The third component is Conéctate i-Aprende (Connect and Learn), a pilot program with an investment of nearly $3 billion pesos for 1,500 high-tech tablets to be distributed to 29 schools, along with training, support, and certification for 100 teachers. This initiative will directly benefit 1,400 students and aims to integrate new technologies pedagogically into areas such as science, mathematics, social studies, language arts, and the arts.
At the Colegio de la Bici (Bike School), Mayor Galán and the Secretary of Education presented 40 tablets to seventh-grade students. In total, this school received 120 devices for the three grade levels targeted by the strategy.
The fourth initiative is the smart provision of devices, with an investment of $32.7 billion pesos, through which Bogotá will deliver more than 8,500 new computers to the 412 district schools. The distribution responds to the pedagogical, technical and obsolescence needs of each institution, leaving behind homogeneous models of technological delivery.
EDU CO - Bogotá Aprende Digital integrates Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán's vision of equity, leveling the playing field so that a student's location or family resources do not determine their opportunities to develop the skills and abilities required by the present and the future.
